You should be up front (and realistic) about the time investment both you and your players should expect to make.
There will always be hiccups in timing. Your character may knock on another character's chamber door only to have to wait a week IRL for that person to post "answers the door".
Veterans of forum posting will know that this happens. They'll also know that the most fun you can have is during those moments when everyone is online together posting and refreshing.
You should try and encourage your players to let people know their schedule so everyone will know when post traffic should be expected.
You should let your players know how often you expect posts to be made.
It is your right to require players to post a certain amount of posts in a certain period of time, however keep in mind that player interest in forum role playing will vary from mild to hard core.
The best owners will try to keep both casual posters and hard core posters happy.
The best owners should also be very active.
If you don't think you will be able to post very often, consider being a player in some other people's world instead of running your own.
